Terroir. It sounds like soil. However, the definition »wine with terroir« is not sufficient. In times of genetic manipulation and food design the term »terroir« describes the antithesis in contrast to industrially produced wines. It is a political, a cultural term which can't be explained with mono-casual »if-then« relations of an industrial »more and better« point system which Parker likes to use. Terroir is a complex term. Climate, soil, vine, wine-grower… In the creative interplay wines a maturing which stand out due to individuality, authenticity and complexity.
